How To Eat Like A Human

This week I decided to read “Deep Nutrition” by Catherine Shanahan, this book can help create a humane eating plan for your life.

I will be discussing:

1. DNA Based Diet

2. Processed Food Problems

3. Addicted to Junk Food

If I could some up this book into one word it would have to be the word Nutrition: the process of providing or obtaining the food necessary for health and growth.

1. DNA Based Diet

Your daily diet doesn’t just affect our waistline but also our unborn children, we can pass down high blood pressure and heart disease through our lineage. That is why Catherine and her husband Luke organized our foods into categories like fresh food, fermented and sprouted foods, meat cooked on the bone, and organ meats.

So that you can live a healthy and well-balanced life with these four pillars in the “Human Diet”, because it supposed to be ideal for everyone. In this book, I was able to see through Catherine’s research that not every calorie we eat is created equal. But with every bite, we take we are ingesting information which will develop new cells for our bodies.

2. Processed Food Problems

Processed foods are often enhanced and engineered so that we as consumers will constantly crave them, pumping them with sugar, preservatives, texturants, colors and flavors. To help make pink slime truly taste like the household favorite the chicken nugget.

What we eat today can affect our children or future children tomorrow, over-processed foods and beverages are often packed with High Fructose Corn Syrup (HFCS) and of course sugar. Excess sugar in our diet can affect our metabolism in the long term and the way we die. Since so many of our diets are filled with artificial additives so are our bodies, instead of getting the nutrients and vitamins we truly need.

3. Addicted to Junk Food

If you feel like you often think of eating cheese puffs that is not by mistake, because there is actually a part in our brave that craves these quick rewards. It may sound crazy to be addicted to processed foods but this often why so many of us simply can’t stop cramming these foods in our carts.

And why we can’t put down the cheese puffs but instead crave another because their foods are deeply rooted in the biochemistry of our brains. As we try to fulfill that intense dopamine release we get once we have eaten them. Which is why these cravings often make our brains mirror people who abuse drugs like cocaine on scans.

Would I Buy Or Read Again?

Can I see myself re-reading Catherine Shanahan’s book “Deep Nutrition” again? ‘No! Can I see myself even purchasing “Deep Nutrition”? No, this book was shocking with its research and I know I will never forget this groundbreaking information that is probably already online.

The Question of the Week is inspired by Catherine Shanahan’s book “Deep Nutrition”. How do you sustain health at your size?

Answer: I try to meal prep, and at least moving or going for a walk twice a week.
