This week I decided to read “Almost Adulting” by Arden Rose, this book is so relatable helps you feel seen on your adulthood journey.
I will be discussing:
1. Set Your Standards & Limits
2. Don’t Water Down Your Worth
3. From Goals To Greatness
And be sure to read my last blog on “Book Review: 3 Things To Remember When Paying Student Debt” & "FREE Download: May 2019 Motivational Quote Desktop Wallpapers".
If I could some up this book into one word it would have to be the word Adulting: to carry out one or more of the duties and responsibilities expected of fully developed individuals.
1. Struggle Your Way To Success
Somethings you do won't be perfect in life and being an adult is not an out being perfect mistakes will always happen. Everything won’t go perfectly all the time which is why you should just keep trying don’t failure keep you from getting to where you want to be.
Being a perfectionist won’t make you an adult, having the ability to perform a task and get things done is what makes you an adult. How you handle stress and deadlines makes you an adult, stop thinking that your life will fit into a perfect timeline.
Simply thinking that your life will look a certain way when you're in your thirties is irrational, as long as you are able to make the goals a reality is what actually matters.
2. Going The Extra Hour
It's amazing how when you wake up just an hour earlier in the morning, you are able to feel so productive and nearly invincible. It’s quite addictive getting up at 5 a.m. it feels as if you are the only one in the world and it’s oh so peaceful.
I am currently struggling to make this a reality in my life, some days I do good and some days I just hit the snooze button. But that’s okay as long as I keep trying to make it work which is why its easier if you adjust to it instead of expecting it happen overnight.
Start by deciding to wake up an hour earlier than your usual wake up time instead of jumping into your goal wake up time each week. And as the weeks go by you will get closer to your ideal wake up time and putting that extra time to use whether its a workout or building a small business.
Often times we say we don’t have time but what if we took the time to find it in our schedules and making it a priority.
3. Becoming A Disciplined Adult
As we get older we have to make more mindful decisions and as we make these decisions we are building discipline in our lives. It may not be easy listening to your priorities when you would rather be listening to your wants.
While your building your discipline it's important to listen and read motivational content to help you stay on track. One of my favorite things to listen to is literally anything on the Peptalk app or listening to an inspirational podcast where they discuss the same struggles I go through.
And please keep in mind that it takes 21 days to form a habit, everything worth having won’t be easy. Think of the reason you want to become a real adult and moments that gave you a wake-up call to change your life.
Would I Buy Or Read Again?
Can I see myself re-reading Arden Rose’s book “Almost Adulting” again? No! Can I see myself even purchasing “Almost Adulting”? No, because this book helped me feel like I’m not alone on this journey to becoming a real adult. I feel like this book focused more on being relatable instead of giving advice.
The Question of the Week is inspired by Arden Rose’s book “Almost Adulting”. Are you ‘Almost Adulting’ or Full Adulting?
Answer: I believe that I am ‘Almost Adulting’, I still have a lot to work on and I'm striving to reach Full Adulting.
