This week I decided to read “Work Party” by Jaclyn Johnson, the fun cover caught my attention and the content just hooked me in so fast that I couldn't put it down.
I will be discussing:
1. Career Vs Womanly Roles
2. It’s Possible with Imposter Syndrome
3. Collaboration over Competition

If I could some up this book into one word it would have to be the word Work Party: deciding to collaborate instead of competing with each other.
1. Career Vs Womanly Roles
This has to be one of my favorite topics inside of the book, about how Jaclyn was dating someone who made less money than her. And how he treated her differently because of it, I also appreciated her honesty on feeling lost after a breakup.
Being able to openly discuss the way a woman is seen in society, how women are expected to be a stay at home wife.
Raise the children and help their spouse fulfill his goals in life, but by putting our goals and dreams in the backseat. And when you decide to put yourself first or have a nanny you are seen as a bad mom among others.
2. It’s Possible with Imposter Syndrome
Self-doubt can rob us of so many opportunities and can affect our self-esteem. As a minority woman, I often feel like I am not good enough even though I have several certifications and education to have certain positions.
It’s still something I am working on now, but from reading this book I was able to discover exactly what I am going through. This book helped me to feel seen, imposter syndrome is essentially the persistent inability to believe that one's success is deserved or has been legitimately achieved as a result of one's own efforts or skills.
And in order to grow, I have to face my fears and face it head on and to build up my confidence in what I have achieved and will achieve.
3. Collaboration Over Competition
Although diversity and inclusion are being taken more seriously to implement in business and organizations, those that are different feel the pressure to compete. Especially with those that look like them and feeling like they have to represent an entire group.
And if they make a mistake they are letting those they represent down, but with all of this pressure, we should actually collaborate and work together.
Which helps us to break down barriers and glass ceilings, and to allow us to inspire the next generation after us. Showing them what it means to lift others up instead of breaking people down to get ahead because after all there is room for all of us to succeed.

Would I Buy Or Read Again?
Can I see myself re-reading Jaclyn Johnson’s book “Work Party” again? Yes! Can I see myself even purchasing “Work Party” ? Yes, this book helped me feel seen and like the issues I go through in a work environment others experience it too.
The Question of the Week is inspired by Jaclyn Johnson’s book “Work Party”. How do you make Work a Party?
Answer: I try to treat others the way I want to be treated and helpful in any way I can.
