This week I decided to read "Rise & Grind" by Daymond John he’s always been my favorite shark on shark tank. Plus he’s also the only shark that wasn’t white like the others when it first aired, and just that small bit of diversity simply amazed me. Entrepreneurship is hard and it is even harder as a minority but seeing him in one the investor chairs made that hard to reach goal seem like a reality.
I will be discussing The Other Path To Success, Rise & Grind This Morning, FUBU Forever. And be sure to read my last blog on Book Review: 3 Reasons Why Stacey Abrams Is More Than Just a 'Minority Leader' & FREE Download: February Desktop Wallpapers.
If I could some up this book into one word it would have to be the word grind: When an individual pushes his/herself to attain a goal.
The Other Path To Success
Daymond John is a great example of someone who succeeded without a college degree, and it wasn't because he didn't see it valuable it was because he simply couldn't afford it.
He became successful because he was determined to do so and had grind and determination to make things happen regardless. Even now after all of his successful endeavors including the incredibly popular FUBU clothing brand, he still sees value in something he has yet to do.
He believes that college allows professional doors to open for you in your career, and if you can't afford college as he did. "If you don't have the resources go to college, well then you better be on the Internet. You better be at that library. You better be wherever you can acquire the knowledge,"
Rise & Grind This Morning
In order to 'Rise & Grind' successfully you must always have a plan on how you will conquer the day.
Use things like a simple checklist or very detailed planners, also set out your clothes for the next day so its one less thing to worry about. The only thing you have to worry about is turning your dream into a reality, get one hard look at your vision board before you walk out your door.
Try listening to motivational speakers on audiobooks while you get ready, use the Pep Talk app or listen to Daymond John's Rise & Grind podcast. These are great ways to 'Rise & Grind' it will not only help you career wise but you will also start to think of yourself differently and all that you can accomplish, you will start to believe in yourself more as time passes.
FUBU Forever
Daymond John founded the company FUBU in 1992 as an American hip hop appael brand. It featured pieces like casual wear, sportswear, eyewear, belts shoes, and even a suit collection.
One thing I have always admired about this company was that when it came out it wasn't just known for one type of product it was known for several and it was a distinctive black-owned brand.
I do believe that even though this had highs and lows I think that it is on its way to being up high once more the retail environment is changing among African Americans. Seeing brands like Gucci & Prada create outrageously racist and offensive clothing is causing customers to flock to other brands.

Would I Buy Or Read Again?
Can I see myself re-reading Daymond John’s 'Rise & Grind' again? Yes! Can I see myself purchasing 'Rise & Grind'? Yes, because I know that I will need a reminder to wake up as early as 5 a.m. while everyone is sleeping. Just to turn my dreams into a reality, and because I have a lot to get done in a day so it just makes sense to start crossing things off while others are resting.
The Question of the Week is inspired by Daymond John's book Rise & Grind. Why do you 'Rise & Grind'?
Answer: I 'Rise & Grind' because I love feeling productive and accomplished. I 'Rise & Grind' because so many people depend on me being successful. I 'Rise & Grind' because I know that failure simply isn't an option for me. Especially when people are waiting for me to fail but I refuse to quit.
