Happy Black History Month! & Library Lovers Month & Week! I decided to read "The Wait" by Devon Franklin & Meagan Good because I was just on the fence about reading it but the book truly surprised me. As I began reading it, I definitely felt like I was being called out for everything I had done wrong in my past relationships. But something inside me said I should keep reading, there is obviously a reason why this book was on the New York Times Best Sellers List. Walking Into Celibacy
That is why I truly loved how Devon & Megan were able to share everything and be practical instead of simply saying don’t have sex. Because what they did was give reasons why you shouldn’t and also tips on how to avoid breaking your commitment. They even explained the difference between abstinence and celibacy, and how this shouldn’t be treated as a diet where you try to swear off eating cake. But instead, as a new lifestyle because if you are looking to get married or find your true partner you first have to change yourself.
Restoring My Faith I feel this book not only changed the way I approach relationships but also spiritually with God because the day I decided to give celibacy I noticed this Youtube video from Transformation Church. And what caught me by surprise was that it was about the same subject as the book, a series called Relationship Goals. Of course, I pressed play, and I have been watching this 8 part series while reading this book and here I am watching the last part on the day I have finished the book and I feel so free because before everything felt so dark and isolated.
1 Book 2 Different Covers There are also 2 very different versions of this book and the one with the red cover is the 1st one I decided to read, so no one would judge me when they saw the cover and the other with Devon & Megan on the cover. The red covered book had a slower start and didn’t keep my attention but the one with their photo on it had more of a personal view and seemed a lot less judgemental.
This book allowed me to become honest about how I have changed as a person since I’ve lost my virginity, and how I’m looking for something that I know I’ll never find it in one night stands. And how I never want to reveal every part of myself to someone but still allow myself to sleep with people I know I don’t want. I also wanted to stay away from this book since I haven't been close to God for so long, and it's as if I was searching for that missing piece in people that could never measure up.
Would I Buy Or Read Again?
I think that I would read this again when I’m dating people that are clearly terrible for me and to help remind myself that I deserve better. Sometimes you just need those subtle reminders that your settling in a relationship or you're allowing someone to take advantage of your kindness. Or walking around numb from everything that’s happened that when something else bad happens your not even surprised by it and you still stay. And this book just helped me see that I’ve done all these things and above not even including the whole celibacy thing.
