This week I decided to read "Becoming" by Michelle Obama because it is Black History Month and I’ve always looked up to her in my eyes she has reached the highest level of black girl magic. This book was on my 9 Books Worth Your Time Reading List, and it did not disappoint me in the slightest. I was able to learn a lot from this book because I can feel like I am gonna go through a very large transition in my life as she did with leaving the White House. Even though my transition isn't that major I still know that graduating college is going to majorly impact me. I will be discussing Forever My FLOTUS, Black Love Goals, What Comes After It’s Over. Forever My FLOTUS
While Barack Obama was in office I always felt like Michelle stood for more than just healthy eating and fighting obesity. For the first time, I was able to identify with someone high in office and it took my breath away. I truly feel like Michelle Obama released this book when the world needed it most especially with the effects of the government shutdown. This was more than just a book for me it was an entire vibe and an inspiration to help motivate me to become my best self.
Black Love Goals
I’ve always admired the relationship between Barack & Michelle, my parents were never married and I’ve seen a marriage that actually looks happy. Not a marriage that's all smiles in front of cameras but behind closed doors they all have their own not so secret relationships with other people or secret children and families. You start to lose hope when you see that most marriages end often end in divorce with crazy custody battles and spousal support. Especially with politicians, it seems like they all have their dirty secrets with their double lives. But throughout the years I never felt that way about their relationship, it was very apparent the way this job weighted on them and Barack Obama’s hair color.
What Comes After It’s Over
This book was incredibly interesting to me it was like I was getting a behind the scenes look at what its like to be in the White House and moving out of it. Seeing how these 8 years were apart of their lives but it doesn't define who they are or will be. I love how the Obamas are enjoying their lives by vacationing all over the world, meanwhile we as country kind of need them. It feels like they turned their backs on us in a way, but I do know that Obama can legally only serve two terms.
I do wonder if we will still feel the same way about them after 20 years, will we still feel like this same passion for them. Or will we have more families like them to look up to and they say how they were inspired by the Obamas'.
Would I Buy Or Read Again?
It seems so many people have been reading this book its kind of like a statement piece on your coffee table, its as if everyone's grandma, mother, and cousin is reading this. I usually don’t read book’s that are popular amongst everyone and bestseller lists because I feel like the books are just blindly promoted. That people just say its a good because of the person who wrote it or whatever scandal its about instead of something that can truly benefit you. I definitely will be buying a copy if I can finally get my hands on one, thank God we have audiobooks but I just needed to read it. I’m just not really sure if this book is worth me reading again maybe it will be something I’ll turn to when my children are going off to college.
