Book Review: How To Be A Bawse by Lilly Singh

This week I decided to read "How To Be A Bawse: A Guide To Conquering Life" by Lilly Singh. She's best known as Superwoman in the Youtube world, and over the year I myself have watched her videos and channel for a quick laugh. One of my favorite videos from Superwoman is "A Geography Class For Racist People", which was her way of reacting to the negative comments that are on her videos. And be sure to read last week's blog on the book The Life-Changing Magic Of Not Giving A F*ck by Sarah Knight.

Defeating Depression

One thing that surprised me the most while reading this book was how she dealt with her depression. I myself have dealt with depression and I resonated with her when she said that depression is a continuous battle. you have good days as well as bad days, and it is important to find something to bring you out of the darkness. And I truly feel as though I have found happiness in my blog and with each one I write it feels like therapy to me. Finding this peace in a passion project has been so amazing I only wish that I had started this blog sooner.

The Impact Of A Hobby

Lilly Singh wrote how Youtube not only helped her but also those who watched her videos. Seeing how each one of her videos touched her subscribers, and how they continue to do so. Which has opened many doors for her professionally like parts in movies "Bad Moms" & "Ice Age: Collision Course" and even her very own movie "A Trip To Unicorn Island". Her platform has allowed her to create #GirlLove to combat girl on girl hate & gender equality. And getting to meet her favorite celebrities like Alicia Keys and The Rock and even featuring Seth Rogen & James Franco in one of her videos. Seeing how far Lilly Singh's hobby has brought her makes me wonder where my blog will take me.

Life As A Full-time Youtuber

Lilly Singh never expected that one her videos let alone several would go viral, opening doors to opportunities she never saw coming. Or that her parents could be so against her trying to turn her video making skills into a career instead of using her Psychology degree. Although social media is still a new field it is still hard for people to grasp that people are Content Creators, Youtubers, and Bloggers is such a new field that it is hard for people to see it as an actual job. I see myself becoming a full-time blogger and I know that it will also be hard for my family understands what exactly I do for a living.

Would I Buy Or Read Again?

I will definitely be purchasing this book in print, why because the cover and pages are vibrantly colored. And the chapters are short and to the point, each one feels as though it was written in a diary. This book isn't just for Lilly Singh fan's it's truly a book that everyone can enjoy. I will definitely be reading this book again I enjoyed seeing her bright photos at the beginning of each chapter this allowed me to see her overall personality from behind the camera.
