Book Review: 4 Reasons Why Tiffany Haddish is The Last Black Unicorn

Happy National Blog Posting Month! This week for my 10th blog I decided that I should read “The Last Black Unicorn” by the very funny Tiffany Haddish, I can’t wait to see her new movie Nobody’s Fool. This book was a great way to see who she really is, a person that has gone through many dark things and still chooses to smile and forgive. And be sure to read last week's blog on the book Harry Potter & The Sorcerer's Stone by J.K. Rowling.

Humble Beginnings

Tiffany faced a lot of neglect and abuse from her mentally ill mother, causing her to fostered by her grandmother. And when her grandmother couldn't take care of her she was placed in the foster system where she faced bullying and molestation. Reading her stories about this time in her life honestly made me grateful for my childhood; even though it wasn't the best I haven't been through anything like this.

School Of Hard Knocks

Not being able to read and using unique ways so her secret wouldn't be exposed, like using a joke, her amazing memory, and unnecessary bathroom breaks. Until her Drama teacher found out her secret by asking her to read the role for a part, and how she dedicated her time to teaching Tiffany how to read.

How being a mascot lead to her first entertainment job as an energy producer/booty assassin at Bar Mitzvahs and mistakenly being the reason for an elderly man’s death with dancing. At 15 she began getting in trouble with her social worker and principal from acting like a class clown trying to win friends over and sent to a comedy camp for her bad behavior.

Rumbling Romance

I thought I have been in bad relationships but from reading Tiffany Haddish’s story, I know that I am truly blessed. Although she faced many tragic things like abortions, miscarriages, abuse, domestic violence, stalking, rape and divorce it was amazing to see her find the good in every situation. That even though they were hurting her she still wanted to forgive them and how she sees the good in people. This is something I learned in her book that I didn't expect to learn about her.

Dressed For The Occasion

This book was shocking and hilarious and it is definitely worth reading. I truly enjoyed getting to see who Tiffany Haddish is instead of a character she plays on tv like most comedians.

Tiffany Haddish even made history as the first black female comic to host SNL after 43 seasons. Although she is a star on the rise she also brought attention to fashion faux pas like wearing a designer dress more than once. And even honoring her father who passed away with a traditional Eritrean gown, although he wasn't in her life he left Tiffany land in Eritrea where her father was royalty.
